Commercial Salting Technician – Great Outdoors

Pay Rate: $30.00 – $38.00 per hour
Location: Washtenaw County

Welcome to the Great Outdoors! We are looking for dependable Commercial Salting Technicians to support our winter snow and ice management operations. This position focuses on applying bulk salt and de-icing materials to commercial properties throughout Washtenaw County. Responsibilities:

  • Operate salting trucks to apply bulk salt and/or liquid de-icing materials on commercial parking lots, roadways, and walkways.

  • Follow assigned routes and service timelines using our electronic route management system.

  • Ensure proper loading of salt materials, including safe operation of salters, spreaders, and related equipment.

  • Conduct pre- and post-event inspections to ensure thorough coverage and site safety.

  • Perform basic equipment checks (spinners, augers, controllers, lights) before each event.

  • Report any equipment issues to the operations team immediately.

  • Keep the truck and salting equipment clean, fueled, and ready for the next event.

  • Communicate with dispatch, managers, and other crew members during storm operations.

  • Assist plow or sidewalk teams as needed during major events.


Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License required; Chauffeur’s License preferred.

  • Prior experience salting commercial properties strongly preferred.

  • Ability to safely operate salting equipment and understand proper material application rates.

  • Reliable, flexible, and able to report quickly during snow or ice events—often overnight or early morning.

  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality.

  • Able to work outdoors in severe winter conditions.

  • Must have proper winter gear (coat, boots, gloves, hat).

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed route instructions.
